What if there are some universal principles you need to know about turning any of your dreams into reality? While there are many NLP tools and techniques that you may use to overcome your challenges or NLP coaching sessions to help you pursue your goals, there are generally 5 principles of success you need to be aware of.

1)    Know what you want– To achieve success, you must first know what it is that you want to achieve or what your desired outcome is. While many people think they know what their goals are, they do not have absolute clarity about them. For example in one of our most popular programs known as the NLP sharing session, we discover that at least 80% of the participants are uncertain about what they truly want to achieve in life when asked to elaborate their stated goals.

2)    Take massive action– When you know what you want to achieve, the next step is to take massive action. As Wayne Gretzky puts it, procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is heavy. There are numerous NLP techniques you can use to overcome procrastination, including NLP Anchoring (specifically Chaining Anchors), New Behavior Generator, Swish Pattern etc.

You see. If you like to change something in your life, you have to take action. If you are not happy with your current job and wish to switch career, you have to take action. Go actively looking for another job. If you want to lose weight and keep fit, just get started with your workout program. The key to overcome procrastination is to start taking small actions.

3)    Develop high sensory acuity– In NLP, sensory acuity refers to your ability to use your 5 senses and be acutely aware of what is going around you. You have to monitor if things are working and if it is necessary to make any changes. 

Having good sensory acuity also means paying attention to other peoples’ non-verbal cues, such as their skin colour change, breathing and pupil dilation. These are some things that we cover in our NLP Dynamic Influence workshop and NLP Practitioner training program.

4)    Practice behavior flexibility– Paraphrasing what Albert Einstein once said about insanity, “insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results“. 

With the help of good sensory acuity, you should be able to gauge if your actions are taking you closer to your desired outcome. If you feel there’s a need to change the approach, by all means just change it.

5)    Operate from physiology and psychology of excellence– So what does physiology and psychology of excellence in NLP mean?

First and foremost, are you aware that your mind and body are connected? This is a very important NLP Presupposition that you need to know, as you can actually learn to change the way you “act” and feel different about anything in just an instant. For instance, I once worked with a client who constantly complained about feeling tired and lethargic at work. And I pointed to his back and said, “Do you think it is possible for you to feel energized and motivated to work when you are constantly slouching?”

How you habitually stand and carry yourself can affect your mental and emotional states. When you are operating from physiology and psychology of excellence, you are able to put yourself at peak state and constantly perform at your optimal level. No wonder we have an NLP Presupposition that states “there are no unresourceful people but only people with inappropriate states.” State management is one of the most important topics that we cover in all our NLP coaching and training. After all, being able to produce consistent results for our clients is what we always intend to accomplish in every NLP coaching session.

With that, try to memorize and internalize the 5 key principles of success of NLP; be on your way to unleash the star in you and achieve more positive results in life!
