Time flies. At this moment, I have completed 6 lessons in NLP class held in March 2013 just like a blink of the eye. Fate and interest bring my course-mates and I together from all walks of life and even someone who lives miles apart.

People management is never easy, let alone managing our own states and priorities. I came from a family which is overly-pampered by 3 women – my mum and two aunts, all under one roof. Thus, I was brought up in an environment where no evil intentions existed. Unfortunately there were times in life where I believed in others, but ended up being deceived. Yet, I still trust and hold on when I crossed paths with the good. There are people whom I wanted to help, but the most I can do is to lend a listening ear. It was only after I attended Jacky NLP course and completing the Representation System Preference Test that I realized that I was a highly auditory person.

Besides the NLP representation system, I found Matching and Mirroring as well as the Eye Patterns really incredible tools. These are NLP tools that have enabled me to improve my ability to study human behaviour and master the art of influence. Especially in office, I like to use mirroring and matching others as a form of putting the other party at ease which eventually leads to a more constructive and meaningful discussion. This results in my colleague feeling more comfortable and “opening” his/her heart to listen the pointers that I share in the meeting. Conversely, if there’s insufficient rapport and lack of trust, there will be thousands of reasons he/she will find for outward rejection.

Another great tool I learned in the NLP Singapore Practitioner Course is Perceptual Position. In one instance, I used the NLP Perceptual Position at my new workplace to resolve a relationship difficulty with a senior female colleague. It seemed that she always had a hard time understanding my points whenever we had informal discussions about work processes. Many times, she would get overly defensive in her words and even attempted to dominate the whole work discussion to show her superiority. However, after using this NLP tool together with the mirroring technique, I found out that her tonality and gestures have changed and not as intimidating as before.

Finally, I find the NLP Collapse Anchors one of the most beneficial tools I picked up during the NLP Practitioner Program. Anchoring has created a huge and positive impact in my life. Since life is full of ups and downs, I knew I need an anchor to assist me in coping with negative emotions which tend to arise during the bad times. Having developed an anchor on my right palm during the NLP coaching program, it now contains various positive emotions and resources which I desire such as assertiveness, confidence, and enthusiasm. Whenever I find myself in a negative state, all I need to do is to clench my right fist to stack up these positive elements (stacking anchors) and channel out the negative ones (collapse anchors) from my left.

Essentially, this NLP training program has empowered me to recover my state and be back on track again.
