Do you wish to learn a powerful NLP technique you can use to break bad habits in your life? Do you have a problem with fingernails biting? Or what about your tendency to fall back to sleep whenever your alarm clock rings?

Now you are about to learn one of the most powerful NLP techniques that will enable and empower you to break any bad habits in your life! Any!

The NLP technique which you will learn shortly is known as the Swish Pattern.

The purpose of this technique is to install an automatic and positive response to a certain stimuli which previously created your unwanted outcome.

The swish pattern works best by using rapid-fire submodality shifts to associate two mental constructs so that one automatically leads to the other. By using the Swish Pattern, you will create a new automatic and positive response into your subconscious mind.

That means that no conscious thought or willpower is required to make the new response permanent. You’ll just start to act in the new behavior you decide.

Getting confused? Well, what best way to learn this NLP technique is by practicing it!

Process of Swish Pattern to Break Bad Habits:

  1. The first step of the Swish Pattern is to create a close-up image of the stimulus. This should be a specific object or scene from the outside world (e.g. you are biting your fingernails). Since this will act as a trigger for the new behavior, it should be seen through the practitioner or client’s eyes (associated). This is also known as the present state.
  2. Create a distant image for the desired behaviour. (Ask yourself: What is it that you would you like to do instead of biting your fingernails?) Since you want to make the desired outcome as compelling as possible, this should be seen as through an outside observer’s eyes (dissociated). In other words, make sure you can actually see your body in the picture.
  3. Swish the two images- rapidly push the stimulus into the distance, and bring the desired response right up to the user’s face. To enhance its effect, you can actually make a “swish” sound as the images pop into place.
  4. Allow the images to settle for a while in their new places. Break the client’s state by doing a “clear screen”. The purpose of doing so is to ensure that a loop will not be formed in the process.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 until any thought of the stimulus leads directly to the new response or positive behaviour.
  6. Do a test and future pace. You have just rid yourself of the negative habit.

Secrets for Success in Using the NLP Technique

  1. Speed. Just like any other NLP technique or tool that leverages on the use of submodalities, speed is necessary for success in using this NLP technique.
  2. Since the Swish Pattern is a tool that works with submodalities, it is especially helpful for people who habitually think in terms of pictures (visual).
  3. According to one of the presuppositions of NLP, there’s a positive intention behind every behavior. Unless the positive intention of the negative habit is preserved, the benefits that Swish Pattern brings about may only be short-termed. We strongly advice NLP Practitioners to use this NLP technique in conjunction with other tools.

We understand learning this NLP technique can be confusing, especially when this is your first time being exposed to this technique.

Like you, some of our NLP practitioners also encountered difficulty when learning this technique in our NLP certification program.

However, with practice, you will see that this NLP technique is actually very easy to learn and apply.

Remember, NLP works, only if you work it.

Now you can start enjoying a life free of bad habits. And don’t forget to come back to share your success stories!
