Having experienced in working with countless certified NLP practitioners, I’ve realized that many of my students like NLP anchoring a lot.
Probably due to its ease of use and effectiveness, NLP anchoring has sparked the interest of many who attended my NLP Certified Practitioner Programs in Singapore.
In fact, I’m not really surprised why many have fallen in love with NLP anchoring. After all, with it, one can choose to deliberately put oneself in any desired state regardless if it is joy, power, love, motivation, energy, creativity or confidence.
And today, we’ll be going through this well-received NLP technique and you’ll demonstrate to yourself how it is possible in using NLP anchoring to help you achieve a confidence state.
But before that…
Here’s Some History About NLP Anchoring Technique
So what exactly is NLP anchoring?
I believed the concept of anchoring first came from a Russian scientist, Ivan Pavlov. And yes, he was the one who did the famous experiment with the dogs. There was once while doing a research on dogs’ digestion, he discovered a strange phenomenon…
At first, the dogs tend to salivate whenever he rang the bell, conditioned stimulus, and brought food the unconditioned stimulus, for the dogs. However, after a period of time of doing the same thing while repeatedly pairing these two stimuli together, he realized that the ringing of the bell alone is sufficient to elicit the same salivating behavior from the dogs even when he didn’t bring the food along!
Likewise, the NLP anchoring process works on the principle. At any time a person is in an associated, intense state, if at the peak of the experience, a specific stimulus is applied, then the two will be linked neurologically.
Ah… yes… That’s probably sounds too complicated. Don’t worry, NLP anchoring is actually very easy. It may sound rocket science when explaining. However, it is like playing dough when you actually perform it.
So rather than going into the history and explanation of it, what better way to try it and prove it to yourself? And here we go…
The Basic NLP Anchoring Process
1) Decide on the state that you’d like to have more of and that you wish to anchor on. In our case, it is confidence.
2) Determine the current level of experience for confidence from a scale of 0-10. ‘0’ being the least confident and ’10’ being the most confident.
3) Now, recall a past, vivid experience where you were feeling extremely confident
4) Anchor on the state when it is about to hit the peak. (e.g. through the touch of your knuckles)
5) Break state.Think of anything (e.g. What do you do have for breakfast just now?)
6) Now, recall another past experience where you could anchor on the state of confidence. Alternatively you may wish to find a role model whom you can borrow the resourceful state from. This is likely to be a person whom you perceive as confident
7) Again, anchor on the state as it is about to reach the peak. Be sure to use the same anchor as you did previously. Break state.
8) You may wish to repeat the previous steps a few more times to strengthen the anchor though that is optional.
9) Now, do a test and future pace. Think about a time in the future where you may like to feel more confident. Test the anchor by touching your knuckles. You should be able to feel confident through the firing of the anchor.
10) Check your level of experience for confidence again from a scale of 0-10. You may want to repeat it to strengthen the state if you’re still on the lower scale.
11) Enjoy the new positive state
